Convert MXF to MOV on Mac

Panasonic P2 cards store clips as MXF — often with separate video and audio files. HPX Converter is an MXF to MOV Mac utility that reads CLIP XML metadata, pairs tracks when verification succeeds, and exports Apple ProRes MOV files you can open in Finder.

Why P2 MXF is different from a single MXF file

On a Panasonic P2 card, each clip may span multiple MXF files plus CLIP XML sidecar data. Converting MXF files to MOV requires pairing video and audio before transcode — guessing filenames is not safe.

HPX Converter pairs video and audio using CLIP XML metadata by UMID when verification succeeds — the same approach Premiere uses for P2 cards.

MXF to MOV Mac workflow

Instead of wrangling ffmpeg scripts or importing into Media Encoder, drop the P2 card folder into HPX Converter. The app scans CLIP metadata, builds a conversion queue in shoot order, and writes ProRes MOV files to an output folder.

  • Input: Panasonic P2 card (MXF + CLIP XML)
  • Output: Apple ProRes MOV (422 HQ by default) with PCM audio when paired
  • Works offline after install — no subscription
