Compatibility
Verified and stated requirements for HPX Converter. When in doubt, test the free trial on your own footage.
One-time purchase · Free trial converts 5 clips · Works offline
macOS
Requires macOS 13 Ventura or later.
Mac hardware
Universal build for Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.
Supported input
Standard Panasonic P2 card folders with VIDEO, AUDIO, and CLIP directories. Drop the card root or CONTENTS folder.
Tested camera: Panasonic HPX170. Other P2 cameras that write the same folder layout may work but are not fully tested.
Output formats
- Maximum Compatibility — Apple ProRes MOV (422 HQ default; 422 and 422 Proxy available in Settings)
- Fast — H.264 MOV (hardware encoded). Available when source video is DVCPRO HD (
dvvideo) with matching audio, as recorded by HPX170.
Editing software
ProRes MOV is a common mezzanine format for NLE ingest. HPX Converter does not require Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, or DaVinci Resolve to run.
Fast H.264 output has been checked for QuickTime Player and Finder playback. Editor compatibility varies — verify with your own project before large batches.
Dependencies
ffmpeg is bundled inside the shipped app. No Homebrew install is required for normal use.
Internet is not required to convert footage after installation. A network connection is only needed to download the app or complete purchase.
Distribution
The paid release build is code-signed and notarized. The public trial DMG is ad-hoc signed; macOS may show a different first-open prompt than the paid build.
Known limitations
- Does not convert standalone MXF files outside a P2 folder structure.
- Clips without verified CLIP XML pairing are skipped by default.
- Free trial converts up to 5 clips per run.
- Fast mode is blocked for footage outside its supported codec set.
