How to use HPX Converter

Before you start

HPX Converter expects a standard Panasonic P2 card folder with VIDEO, AUDIO, and CLIP subfolders. You can drop the card root or its CONTENTS folder into the app. It does not convert arbitrary standalone MXF files.

Steps

  1. Download and install. Get the free trial or purchase the full app for $5. Open the DMG and drag HPX Converter to Applications.
  2. Mount or copy the P2 card. Use a card reader, or copy the full card folder to your Mac.
  3. Add the folder. Drop the P2 card root or CONTENTS folder onto the app, or use File → Open P2 Card.
  4. Review clips. Check the clip list and pairing status. Clips without a verified CLIP XML match are skipped by default.
  5. Choose output folder. The default base location is your Desktop. Each run creates a dated subfolder (for example 09-08-2026).
  6. Select a conversion mode. Maximum Compatibility exports ProRes MOV. Fast exports H.264 MOV. See compatibility for details.
  7. Convert. Click Convert. The app processes clips sequentially and numbers output files in shoot order (001.mov, 002.mov, …).
  8. Find the MOV files. When finished, open the output folder in Finder. Reports (CONVERSION_REPORT.txt, PAIRING_REPORT.txt) are written alongside the MOVs.
  9. Edit or review. Import the MOV files into your editor. ProRes is intended for NLE workflows; Fast H.264 is suited to QuickTime and Finder playback.

Original footage

HPX Converter reads from the P2 folder and writes new MOV files. It does not modify or delete the original MXF files on the card.
