Practical answers about converting Panasonic P2 MXF footage to MOV on Mac with HPX Converter.

What is HPX Converter?
HPX Converter is a macOS utility that converts standard Panasonic P2 card folders into Apple ProRes MOV files. It pairs separate video and audio MXF using CLIP XML metadata when verification succeeds, then exports numbered files in shoot order — without opening Premiere or Media Encoder.
Which cameras does it support?
HPX Converter expects the standard P2 layout: VIDEO, AUDIO, and CLIP folders. It was developed and tested with HPX170 footage. Other P2 cameras that write the same structure — including HVX200, HPX250, HPX300, HPX370, and HPX500 — may work with your cards. See the supported cameras page or test the free trial on your own footage.
Does it work with HPX170 footage?
Yes. HPX170 is the camera HPX Converter was built around. For a step-by-step ingest workflow, read the HPX170 workflow guide.
Does it convert P2 MXF files?
Yes — from a full P2 card folder, not from random standalone MXF files. HPX Converter reads video and audio MXF from the card, pairs them when CLIP XML verification succeeds, and transcodes to MOV. See the MXF to MOV guide for more detail.
Does it export ProRes or MOV?
Both — the output is Apple ProRes inside a MOV container. ProRes 422 HQ is the default; you can choose a different ProRes profile in Settings.
Does it work on Mac?
Yes. HPX Converter requires macOS 13 Ventura or later and ffmpeg via Homebrew (brew install ffmpeg). It runs on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.
Is this a replacement for Log and Transfer?
Not exactly. Panasonic P2 Log and Transfer is a clip browser and card-management suite. HPX Converter does one focused job: batch converting verified P2 clips to finished MOV files for review, archive, or handoff — without a full NLE ingest project.
Where do I download the app?
Visit the download page for install instructions, or get the trial DMG from downloads. The free trial converts up to 5 clips on your own P2 footage.
